The University of Oviedo presents its offer of sports activities for the 2013-2014 academic year

The number of users of sports facilities almost doubled last year, reaching 128,000 visitors

The University of Oviedo presented this morning its offer of sports courses and activities that will take place at the different campuses of the Asturian academic institution. The Area of Sports and Health has programed a total of 111 courses of 24 different sports disciplines. The wide range of sports activities offered and the renovation of some of the premises have led to an increase of almost the double of the number of users in the span of a year, from 65,000 during 2011-2012 to 128,000 during 2012-2013.

The Rector of the University of Oviedo, Vicente Gotor, the general director of Sports of the Principality, José Ramón Tuero, the councilor of Sports of the Town Council of Gijón, Pedro Barbillo, and the delagate of Sports and Health, Miguel del Valle, have been in charge of presenting to the public the sports offer of the University, alongside the representatives of the enterprises and institutions that sponsor some of the activities.

Vicente Gotor thanked the sponsors for their support, which has allowed the different federated teams to continue competing. In turn, José Ramón Tuero announced that the University and the Principality will sign an agreement so that the users of the University Sports Card may access the premises of El Cristo free of charge during holidays and weekends, when the premises of the University remain closed.

Miguel del Valle highlighted the key role that sponsord play during critical times and thanked them for their support. He also praised the effort of the university athletes as key figures of the university spirit.

As a new feature, this year the Services of Sports and Health will give the university community tri-monthly offers of activities to achieve a greater impact. Last year, around 2,000 people attended at least some of the planned courses.
