In 2020, the University of Oviedo began working to obtain the award for HR Excellence in Research.
The first step we took was to endorse the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. Subsequently, an internal survey was sent to research staff of all profiles and stages, including research support managers, which focused on analyzing the principles of the C&C: hiring, working conditions, etc. Based on the results, a GAP analysis was carried out. Through this, an Action Plan was developed, framing and categorizing the existing initiatives appropriately, which was sent to the Commission together with the GAP analysis (initial phase).
The University of Oviedo achieved this award on September 15, 2021. The granting of this award implies the commitment of the University to develop the proposed Action Plan over the five years following this date (implementation phase).
Two years after receiving recognition, the European Commission carries out an interim assessment of the implementation of the Action Plan to check its progress, its actions and the accompanying measures, and design the Revised Action Plan. Three years later, the Commission will carry out a final in-person audit where it will be decided whether or not to renew the seal.
The following diagram shows the overall process:
Currently, the University is in the intermediate evaluation phase (interim assessment). The interim monitoring report was sent to the Commission on November 15.
The University of Oviedo is determined to continue along the path it has taken. We fully care about our researchers’ careers and are dedicated to selecting the best person for each job, incorporating open, transparent and merit-based recruitment practices into our processes.
