Asturias is an autonomous community with just under one million inhabitants located in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. The most common way for students coming from other countries is by plane.
By plane
Asturias Airport is Santiago del Monte (Castrillón), 45 kilometres from Oviedo and 40 kilometres from Gijón. The journey time between the two cities and the airport, which can be covered by bus, varies between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on traffic. There are regular flights to several Spanish capitals, including Madrid and Barcelona, and direct international connections with low-cost companies to London, Paris, Düsseldorf, Brussels, Rome, and Amsterdam, which will later be extended to Lisbon and Milan.
By train
There are train stations in Oviedo, Gijón, Avilés, and other towns in Asturias. For information on routes, services, prices, etc., you can consult the website of the railway company Renfe or call its general information telephone number 902320320. The railway stations are conveniently connected with bus and taxi services.
Bus
There are several bus companies that connect Asturias with Spanish and foreign cities or with other towns in the Principality. Almost every major Asturian town has a bus station. The company ALSA provides the service between Asturias and the plateau.
