The subject of Technical English is taught in the second semester of the fourth year of the Degree in Mining Technology Engineering, within module 3 or professional. It is optional and worth 6 ECTS credits. The objective of this subject, corresponding to the "foreign language" module, is to provide students with training in technical English, in such a way that it complements the knowledge they have acquired in the various subjects of their specialization.
It is expected that the student has a minimum level of English Language regarding grammatical and linguistic structures, as well as communicative competence, corresponding to A2 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.)
The general competencies to be developed in this module are GC4, GC10, GC15 and GC20.
The specific competency corresponding to this subject is SC59.
These competences result in the following learning outcomes:
LO35.01. - Knowledge and use of the English language according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages established for this subject (GC4, SC59).
LO35.02. - Application of knowledge and basic strategies to the development of the students’ own linguistic competence in English language (GC4, GC14, SC59).

Laboratory practices will be focused on the preparation of the necessary documents to function effectively in an English professional environment. Oral activities will also be carried out in order to promote the necessary skills in a work environment: job interviews, work meetings, etc. Finally the group project and its oral presentation will be prepared on a specific topic, to be agreed with the teacher.
The face-to-face training activities of the subject are organized into lectures, language classroom sessions, classroom practices, group tutorials, and evaluation sessions. The distribution of each of these face-to-face activities is detailed in the following table:

7.1. Ordinary and extraordinary calls Model A. It will be a requirement to complete all tests to opt for this evaluation system, as well as a minimum attendance of 85%. The assessment of student learning will be carried out through a combined system of continuous assessment tests, assessment of work, and exercises carried out by the student throughout the course. Model B. The weight of each of the assessment activities is detailed below:

7.2. Differentiated assessment: Those students who have been granted Differentiated Assessment (see Article 7 of the "Evaluation Regulations of the University of Oviedo") will follow Model B of assessment.

This mechanism of differentiated assessment may be replaced by another assessment mechanism, specific to each student, pursuant to Article 7 of the Evaluation Regulations of the University of Oviedo. Requirements for all assessment models and all calls:
- In accordance with Articles 24 and 25 of the Evaluation Regulations of the University of Oviedo, fraudulent use of documentary sources or total or partial plagiarism of works will be penalized with a failing grade for the subject (final grade 0).
- For all calls and assessment models, competent use of the English language in all skills is expected. The quality of expression will be taken into account in the grade awarded for assessment tests.
