Scientist and National Award for Research, Antonio Hernando, gave a lecture on the feast day of Santo Tomás de Aquino.
A year on, the university community commemorated the festivity of Santo Tomás de Aquino with a solemn academic ceremony held in the Historic Building were the Extraordinary Degree and Doctorate Degree Awards were presented. Professor of Matter Magnetism at the Complutense University of Madrid, Antonio Hernando Grande, who has received the DuPont Award and the National Award for Research, gave a paper entitled "20 years of basic and applied research at the Institute of Applied Magnetism of the CUM"
The Rector, Vicente Gotor, took the opportunity of such an important event in the university agenda to enhance the importance of students finishing their training pathways with a doctorate degree. He also encouraged them to serve a postdoctoral internship in top universities. Besides, the Rector highlighted the need of keeping on strengthening ties with the business world in order that the basic and applied research carried out by the University of Oviedo achieves a real knowledge transfer to society. Also, he bet on boosting sponsorship.
For his part, Antonio Hernando focused on his exposition "20 years of basic and applied research at the Institute of Applied Magnetism of the CUM". After the lecture given by the expert on Matter Magnetism, the Rector made delivery of the 16 Extraordinary Degree Prizes and 31 Extraordinary Doctorate Degree Prizes. Besides, the Faculty of Law awarded two special prizes in memory of Miguel Traviesas and Olga Menéndez. The University Chorus was in charge of opening and closing the solemn ceremony.
