The University of Oviedo, the Prince of Asturias Foundation and Oviedo Filarmonía premiere in Asturias 'Alexander Nevsky' with a live soundtrack

The classic movie by Eisenstein will be projected in the Príncipe Felipe Auditorium on March 6 at 8 PM, with the live performance of the original soundtrack composed by Prokofiev

The University of Oviedo, the Oviedo Filarmonía orchestra and the Prince of Asturias Foundation work together to bring Alexander Nevsky to life, in a projection in which Prokofiev's soundtrack will be performed live. The epic of Eisenstein's classic will arrive at the Príncipe Felipe Auditorium next Wednesday, March 6, at 8 PM in an event that will be open to the public until capacity is reached.

On stage and in the pit (which will make its debut during this event) 150 members of the Oviedo Filarmonía Orchestra and of the Chorus of the Prince of Asturias Foundation will perform the cantata that provides sound to the story of Alexander Nevsky. Master Marzio Conti will lead the Chorus of the Prince of Asturias Foundation and the teachers of the Oviedo Filarmonía, accompanied by the mezzosoprano Marina Pardo.

This will be the first time that an Asturian audience will be able to enjoy this production, which was staged last month at the Barbican in London by the chorus and orchestra of the BBC. The copy of the movie that will be shown at the Auditorium comes from the European Filmphilarmonic Institute of Berlin. The score has been reworked by an exemplary process of collaboration between German and Russian institutions and is specifically prepared to allow the music to be performed live.

Until 2003, the music that accompanied the projection of Alexander Nevsky was a score by William Brohn from 1986, composed without being able to consult the archives and documents made by Prokofiev due to the then-existence of the Iron Curtain.

This projection is yet one more step towards collaboration between the University of Oviedo, through the Vice-Rector's Office for University Extension and Communication, with other institutions to offer cultural activities. In the case of the City Council of Oviedo, these are framed in a collaboration agreement reached last year.

Alexander Nevsky follows the steps of the initiative that took place on May 2012, with the projection of the classic by Fritz Lang, Metropolis, in the Campoamor Theater, with live soundtrack by the Oviedo Filarmonía Orchestra.
