The Vice-Rector for International Relations and Development Cooperation of the University of Oviedo, Ana María Fernández, presented the "Live Europe" project to bring around 500 students in secondary and vocational education closer to European institutions.

This European program is put in motion with the collaboration of the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities of the Principality of Asturias to promote the coordination between different educational levels and go deeper into the citizens' rights and responsibilities from a practical perspective.

In the presentation of this project, Ana María Fernández was accompanied by Professor Enrique Banús, from the International University of Catalonia, who gave an opening lecture with the attendance of the other members involved in the project. Urbano Álvarez, head of the Plurilingualism and New Technologies Service of the Regional Ministry of Education, Pilar Concejos, Ana Isabel González and Patricia Herrero were also present.

This annual tender by the European Commission, worth 52,000 Euros, will be carried out in 11 educational centres in Oviedo, Gijón, Lena and Navia. The main purpose of the program is to promote training for teachers of secondary and vocational education. For this purpose, workshops will be given to students in the 3rd or 4th years of secondary education and vocational training whereas lecturers and civil servants from the EU will come to the centres to give lectures in the languages requested by them.

Besides, after these workshops, there will be a phase of a contest in which the interested groups will present a final project which will be evaluated by a committee. The winner will be given a trip to the European Parliament.
