The psychologist Howard Gardner, awarded with the Príncipe de Asturias Prize of Social Sciences 2011, has participated this morning in a work breakfast in the University Chapel, organized by the Príncipe de Asturias Foundation and the academic institution.

This meeting, chaired by the professor of Methodology of Behavioural Sciences José Muñiz Fernández, was attended by: Luis Ignacio Cacho Vicente, chief manager of the Promete Foundation; Jorge Ruiz, expert in Speech Therapy and founder musician of Maldita Nerea group; Monserrat del Pozo, head of the Monserrat School of Barcelona; Nùria Miró, deputy director of the Monserrat School of Barcelona; Eliseo Díaz Itza, teacher of Education at the University of Oviedo and specialist in childish language; Luis Manuel Valdés, professor of Logics of the University of Oviedo and expert in theories of mind; Jorge Fernández del Valle, professor of Social Psychology and head of the research group in Family and Infancy from the University of Oviedo; Lucas Ramada Prieto, philologist specialised in Language Didactics and Literature and Ramón Jesús Vilalta Suárez, forensic psychologist and dean of the Illustrious Official School of Psychologists of Asturias.

Participants in this scientific meeting analyzed the multiple intelligences model, developed by Howard Gardner and its possible applications in fields as education and creativity. Among other questions, Gardner explained the educative criteria which families must follow to improve children's educative, emotional and cognitive running. In this sense, the winner of the Príncipe de Asturias prize of Social Sciences stressed that parents must adopt "a balanced role" in their children's education and avoid extreme positions, this means that "they mustn't give them everything nor projecting their own frustrations on children"

Before starting this work meeting, Howard Gardner was received by the vice-rector of IT and Communications of the University of Oviedo, Víctor Guillermo García, and he signed the academic institution's Honour Book.
