The University of Oviedo has commenced the Welcoming Week activities today in the Campus of El Milán that will last until the 10th of September. These activities are aimed to Erasmus or international students who have signed an agreement with the University of Oviedo. The purpose of this initiative is to guide foreign students who have come to Asturias and ease their adaptation both to University and the cities where the university campuses are located: Oviedo, Gijón and Mieres during their first weeks in Spain.

The academic institution will receive 346 young people who are taking part in this first term's Erasmus programme, a figure that exceeds the number of registered Erasmus students in the last course on the same dates. Those who will study at the University of Oviedo during the second term must be added to this number. In which it is referred to number of students who come from a Specific Agreement, there are 60 people enrolled for this term.

The Welcoming activities' programme offers guiding sessions about the campuses and the university centres, practical information about academic procedures in addition to the different teaching, sport and cultural activities. International students will be able to attend Spanish language lessons, get a deeper knowledge of Asturian culture and society as well as enjoying themselves with guiding tours to discover university campuses, their facilities and the cities of Oviedo, Gijón and Mieres. In this last campus, there will be a basketball marathon, indoor soccer, aerobics, which will be held on Barredo's sports facilities, on Friday 9th of September. The Welcoming Week will finish on next Sunday 11th, when a visit to Covadonga will take place.

With regard to outgoing mobility, more than 680 Asturian students will study at a foreign university through the Erasmus programme during the next academic course, while 61 will move through Specific Agreements.
