This edition, which will pay special attention to the relation between University and Professional training, will get representatives from diverse Spanish Universities and Ministry of Education together in Oviedo
The University of Oviedo inaugurated the X Meeting of University Information and Counselling Services, which will pay special attention to the relation between Professional Training and University. The regional minister of Science and Education, Herminio Sastre; the vice-rector for Students and Employment, Luis Rodríguez Muñiz; and the coordinator for the Group of Information and Counselling Services, Fermín Martín took part in the opening ceremony.
The vice-rector for Students of the University of Oviedo stressed the need to stop discussing if there are many or few students who choose Professional training or university studies because "the most important thing is that more and more students opt for higher education, no matter if it is at University or in Professional training's centres". In addition, Luis Rodríguez Muñiz defended that barriers have to be removed when changing from Professional training to University and vice versa.
This meeting, which will last until next Friday, will be attended by specialists from different Spanish Universities and representatives from the Ministry of Education. Tomorrow, Mercedes Chacón, General Director of Attention, Participation and Employability of the University Student at the Ministry of Education, will offer a lecture about the relation of Professional Training and University, at 9:30 in the Stepped Classroom of the Historical Building.
Throughout two days, several issues as the access to University, the recognition of credits, possibilities of counselling by using ICTs, the experiences of the Campuses of International Excellence within the Sub programme of Strengthening, and promotion of the statute of the university student will be treated.
The closure will be held tomorrow at 14:00 with the participation of Juan José Sánchez Navarro, Managing Director for Educative Politics, Academic Planning and Professional Training of the Principality of Asturias; Fermín Marín, Coordinator the SIOU Group, University of La Laguma; and Luis Rodríguez Muñiz, Vice- rector for Students and Employment of the University of Oviedo.
