The University and the City Hall of Oviedo show the best current theatre in ‘The contemporary scene'

The cycle will bring 4 plays to Asturias coming from Barcelona, Madrid, Galicia, Santander and Zaragoza

The cycle The contemporary scene will offer the Asturian public information about the current theatre developed nowadays, through some of the most innovative and prestigious companies of the country. This second edition of plays, organized by the University of Oviedo, is starting today January, 24, at the Filarmónica theatre and the public will see companies from different parts of the country.

The raw and gritty reality of this crisis will mix with a group of adventurers looking for Eldorado sailing up the Amazon River, or proposals that show theatre within the theatre. The program includes thematic representations and very different authors.

After the great success of the first edition, the contemporary scene comes back to the Filarmónica with an ambitious and balanced program. Entrance to all sessions will be free until full capacity.

From Kapital to Indias

The collective Project Mein Kapital will be in charge of opening the cycle this evening at the Filarmónica Thatre. A performance produced by three companies: Tranvía Teatro - Teatro de la Estación (Zaragoza), Teatre Tantarantara (Barcelona) and Teatro del Astillero (Madrid). Mein Kapital makes us think about the miseries of our society, and encourages spectators to think thoroughly, as an example of committed theatre.

El viaje de El mar dulce takes us to an intense adventure in the Indies of the 16th century. This expedition made hundreds of soldiers and go-getters face terrible dangers, trying to reach the promise of infinite wealth of ElDorado. The group Espacio Espiral (Santander) will show how life was 5 centuries ago, through the texts by José Sanchis Sinisterra and Crónicas de Indias.

The play written by Santiago Cortegoso 0,7% Molotov will be performed by Teatro de Ningures (Cangas, Pontevedra), which will tell the audience the story of two complex and opposed characters, immersed in a cynical society.

The last play of the cycle will be Fingir, by Lidia Fernández Zoilo. An opportunity to explore and get to know the world through theatre. Colectivo 96º , from Barcelona, suggest irony on their performances.

The contemporary scene means a step forward in the commitment of the Asturian institution with the theatre, with the collaboration of the City Hall of Oviedo. In addition to promoting a Theatre Classroom and a University Theatre Group in the University, it has been offering travelling theatre for two years, which is a cycle of theatre plays performed by the best theatre companies in Asurias that take their performances to faraway places of Asturias. Teatro Margen, Higiénico Papel, Teatro del Norte y Zig-Zag Danza and El Callejón del Gato gathered together an intergenerational audience in different theatres throughout Asturias.
