The II Doctoral Conference of the University of Oviedo brings together, at the Campus of Mieres and from today, 155 young researchers of the University of Oviedo carrying out their thesis in the Asturian academic institution. A total of 97 PhD students participating have designed, also, a poster with the advances of their research works, which cover all fields of knowledge.

The encounter will come to an end tomorrow, Friday, with the intervention of the Rector of the University of Oviedo. The Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Postgraduate Studies, Covadonga Betegón, and the Director of the International Postgraduate Centre, Carmen Bermajo, were in charge of officially opening the conference this morning.

The second edition of the Doctoral Conference focuses on the most useful techniques and platforms for achieving effective communication in research and also the ways for obtaining funds for covering the expenses of research. Furthermore, a specific panel will also be created for dealing with the options of work placement and mobility among PhD students.

The programme of the encounter, organized by the International Postgraduate Centre and backed by the Campus of International Excellence, combines lectures, panels and participatory sessions throughout these days. The Conference will also include an exhibition and, this year as a novelty, an oral presentation, on the part of the PhD students, of the posters where they show their PhD thesis projects and advances in their researchs.

Theses in all areas of knowledge

Among the 97 posters displaying the basic lines of research of the theses, there are five fields of knowledge. The PhD students of the University of Oviedo focus, for example, on aspects related to geography, architecture or culture of their own region.

Within the field of science and biomedicine there are numerous research works on cancer or on the field of functional and cell biology. The area of psychology provides a large number of thesis on the treatment of different addictions or the diagnosis of certain disorders.

The area of social and law sciences provides works basically focused on economics and education. In the field of engineering, the PhD students cover fields such as technology of materials, design and construction processes, environmental engineering, IT models and applications or enginneering projects linked to power or the environment.
