Questions like the kind of work that the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) develops. What the discovery of Higgs Boson means and what´s the contribution of the scientists of the University of Oviedo, will be answered in the exhibition on the CERN

The exhibition shows the public an easy way to access the experiments developed in the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland, where last summer the existence of the Higgs Boson "God particle" was confirmed. The exhibition also shows how the researchers of the University of Oviedo have contributed to the work developed in the CERN for more than two decades, through the High Energy Physics Research Group, led by Professor Javier Cuevas, and the Theoretical Physics Group, led by Professor Yolanda Lozano. The general public may also have access to the work developed by some Asturian companies for the CERN.

The exhibition brings together explanatory panels, videos and models about the functioning and findings of the laboratory. Lecturers and students of the University of Oviedo will offer guided tours for the public to explain the different elements. The exhibition will be inaugurated on January, 18, and may be visited until February, 5, with free admission for those interested.

Nearly 700 students of 4º ESO and Baccalaureate of 19 centers throughout Asturias will visit the exhibition in the next few weeks and will take part in the educational workshops held in the Faculty of Science. Nearly thirty lecturers from the departments of Physics, Mathematics, and Statistics will conduct workshops to bring children closer to matters like magnetism, nanotechnology, atmospheric pressure, astronomy, probability in gambling or the possibility of seeing the sound.

Activities aimed at science dissemination about the CERN oriented towards students, have been promoted by the Research Result Transfer Office (OTRI) with the support of FECYT and the Regional Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.
