The initiative seeks to promote awareness of the figure and work of the poet, and of literary and artistic creation within society.
The University of Oviedo will pay tribute to the memory of the poet, winner of the Prince of Asturias Award for Literature and Doctor Honoris Causa Ángel Gonzalez with a chair that will bear his name. The Government Council of the Asturian academic institution has approved today the creation of this Chair, which is born with the purpose of promoting awareness of the figure and work of the poet and, in broad terms, of artistic and literary creation and the study of the humanities within society.
Rector Vicente Gotor stressed the relevance that the creation of this Chair has, born from the initiative of the Vice-Rector's Office for University Extension and Communication, which will carry out several cultural activities around the figure of Ángel González, including roundtables, conferences, exhibitions, concerts, congresses, seminars, workshops and literary awards, among many others.
Moreover, the Chair will promote research through grants, and it will seek agreements with other public and private institutions and entities to encourage the development of joint projects.
The Rector considered an honor for the University to use the "Ángel González brand" with permission from his widow. The Chair, added Vicente Gotor, aims at "praising the legacy of Ángel González with a series of activities that will be very important for this University".
