The session will take place on 27th February 2012, at the Polytechnic School of Engineering in Gijón.
The Polytechnic School of Engineering of Gijón will host, on Monday 27th February 2012, the celebration of the third edition of the Girl's Day. The main goal of this initiative, which is organized by the University of Oviedo and the Foundation University of Oviedo, is to bring students closer to technical studies, stir their interest in Science and Technology and increase the number of women enrolled in this kind of studies.
Throughout the session, it is planned that more than 200 secondary school and high school students meet. The students will attend a roundtable discussion and will make a guided tour to the laboratories at the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Gijón.
The Girl's Day official opening will be held, at 10 a.m at the Great Hall in the Multipurpose Building of the Campus of Gijón. The opening ceremony will count on the presence of the Rector of the University of Oviedo, Vicente Gotor Santamaría; the Mayor of Gijón, Carmen Moriyón Entrialgo; the Vice-rector for Students and Employment, Luis Rodríguez Muñiz; the Vice-rector for Research, Santiago García Granda; and the Head of the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Gijón, Hilario López García.
The Girl's Day is a worlwide initiative also carried out in countries such as United States, Germany, The Netherlands, Luxembourg and Switzerland.
