The University of Oviedo presents its new Programme of Volunteering Practices for Degree students

Those students involved in volunteering practices in social projects developed by certain organizations will have their work recognized as optional credits in their degree studies

The Assembly Hall of the Historic Building held this afternoon the presentation of the new Programme for Volunteering Practices of the University of Oviedo.

The Vice-Rector for Students, Luis Rodríguez Muñiz, accompanied by the manager of Social Projection, Marta Pérez Toral, was in charge of introducing this new initiative to the university community and which will allow those students involved in volunteering tasks at certain organizations to have their work recognized as optional credits in the degree studies they are registered at the Asturian academic insitution.

Among other things, Rodríguez Muñiz explained the necessary requirements for requesting the credit validation and reminded that the legal framework of this initiative are the statutes of the University of Oviedo and the Student's Statute. Likewise, the Vice-Rector stated that he expected that by the end of the year a validation of a maximum of 3 ECTS credits per year will be approved for this kind of practicals and encouraged students participating in volunteering works in other social organizations unconnected to this project to notify it to the Space for Solidarity in order to reach new collaboration agreements.

The presentation ceremony of the Programme of Volunteering Practices counted with the intervention of representatives of the different entities participating in the project, such as Red Cross, Proyecto Hombre, Cáritas and AFESA.

The new Programme of Volunteering Practices is part of the initiatives promoted by the Space for Solidarity of the University of Oviedo, in agreement with its commitment to the Asturian society and the promotion of solidarity, justice and equality values.
