Inaugural Conference about the Erasmus Mundus University Master's degree in Women and Gender Studies
Monica Tarducci, teacher of Anthropology will offer this lecture whose title is 'Mujeres, política y vida cotidiana: una visión desde América Latina' (Women, politics and everyday life: a view from Latin America).
The Master's degree in Women and Gender studies (GEMMA), one of the three with the Erasmus Mundus hallmark, which are taught at the University of Oviedo, will be inaugurated on the 30th of September through its opening lecture. Monica Tarducci, teacher of Anthropology in the University of Buenos Aires, will be in charge of this conference entitled "Mujeres, política y vida cotidiana: una vision desde América Latina" (Women, politics and everyday life: a view from Latin America). This speech will take place on the Aula Magna of the University's Historical Building, at 18:30h.
The official GEMMA Erasmus Mundus Master's Degree is a multidisciplinary programme which seeks the skills' development for the intervention in matters of equality and training in methodologies about women and gender's studies in the European field. These studies can be coursed choosing among seven universities from a consortium, which belong to six European countries: Oviedo and Granada; in Spain, Bologna, in Italy; Central European University (CEU), in Hungary; University of Hull, in United Kigndom; University of Lodz, in Poland; and University of Utrecht, in Nederland. From the year 2012, the University of Rutgers (EEUU) will be added to this list.
The Erasmus Mundus Master's degrees are integrated courses of High Quality taught by a consortium of at least three universities from three different European countries. These master's degree must be "integrated", this means, that students must spend a study period in at least two of the three universities, which will finish with the awarding of a joint, double or multiple diploma of recognition. The Erasmus Mundus programme is one of the bids of the Campus of International Excellence of the University of Oviedo.
Besides the Erasmus Mundus in Women and Gender Studies, the University of Oviedo teaches two other master courses in this category: the one in Marine Biodiversity and Preservation and another one in Mechatronics and Micro mechatronic Systems. From 2012, another two Erasmus Mundus programmes which will count with the participation of the University of Oviedo as international coordinator will be taught: Erasmus Mundus Master Course in Emergency and Critical Care and another one about Sustainable Transportation and Electrical Power Systems.
