The 2011 account liquidation keeps the positive remainder from last year
The Rector of the University of Oviedo, Vicente Gotor, informed of the different agreements reached in the meeting of the Governing Council held today, among which, apart from the account liquidation, we can highlight the approval of a set of rules for the regulation of final projects in the different degrees.
One of the main agreements was the approval of the General Account of the University of Oviedo corresponding to the 2011 fiscal year, which will be sent to the Social Council for its definite approval. The 2011 account liquidation shows a positive remainder of 3.5 million euros, a figure similar to 2010 fiscal year.
The Vice-Rector for Economic Planning, Agreements and Contracts, Santiago Álvarez, explained that the positive balance in 2011 fiscal year is basically due to "the deep effort made in cutting running costs". The austerity policies pursued by the University of Oviedo have allowed that the Asturian academic institution has been able to deal with its expenses in a moment of important restrictions as a consequence of its income drop.
"We have adapted ourselves to the complex economic and budgetary situation we are going through. The fact that there is a positive remainder does not necessarily mean that the University has enough budget to take care of the expenses but that we have reduced our expenses to adapt ourselves to the situation", pointed out the person responible for Economic Planning in the Rectorate Team.
The Governing Council also agreed on appointing the new Dean of the Faculty of Law, Benjamín Rivaya, as President of the Central Electoral Board.
