Days of 'the Heroic and Unique Mountain Vine-Growing'
It seeks to reveal the particularities of this modality and look for the collaboration of the stakeholders interested in its protection.
On next Thursday, 14th of April, at 18.30h, the day of the "the Heroic and Unique Mountain Vine-Growing", organized by the Aula Valdés-Salas Hall will be held in the Historical Building of the University of Oviedo.
The rector of the University of Oviedo, Vicente Gotor, the deputy director of the Valdés Salas Foundation, Joaquín Lorences and the MEPs Antonio Masip and Salvador Garriga will participate during the day. The presentations will be led by the head of the Centro di Ricerche, Studi e Valorizzazione per la Viticoltura di Montagna (CERVIM), Roberto Gaudio, a professor of the University of Oviedo, Alfonso García Leal and a researcher of the CSIC, Mª Carmen Martínez. The session will end with an exhibition and a tasting of wines from Cangas and other European mountain wine areas.
The high mountain vine-growing, on steep slopes and small islands takes place in difficult conditions that's the reason of its name. It represents a five per cent of the world vine-growing but its relative relevance becomes enormous as it enables to link the population with the land, in close relation to culture, landscape and environmental preservation.
The Centro di Ricerche, Studi e Valorizzazione per la Viticoltura di Montagna, which has been working for more than 20 years in the protection of this wine sector, participates in the organization of this Day as well.
In Asturias, this wine is one of the oldest traditions of the region, still ongoing and expanding through the many wineries which, nowadays, create and design new and traditional wines in the area of Cangas del Narcea.
