This afternoon, in the Auditorium, the Rector, Vicente Gotor, has received the seven teams from G-9 universities which will compete in the IV Inter-university Debating League, which begins tomorrow. Gotor welcomed the teams from the Universities of Cantabria, Castilla- La Mancha, Basque Country, Navarra, Extremadura and Zaragoza, apart from the representatives from the University of Oviedo, to Oviedo and the Historic Building and wished all them good luck in the contest which begins tomorrow at 9 am. at the Cultural Centre LAUDEO.

Following the official reception in the Auditorium, the members from all delegations enjoyed the first concert by AMIGO (Aula de Música Iberoamericana Grupo de Oviedo) in the university chapel. The program included works by Latin American and Spanish musicians from the XIX and XX centuries and covered different genres and styles within Latin music.

The debates are on "Is transgenic food the universal panacea against hunger?" and they will begin tomorrow with the first qualifying rounds, which will be simultaneoulsy developed in the Library and in the Historic's Building Auditorium. In the afternoon, the semifinal will be carried out in the Auditorium and the finalist teams will compete for the title in the morning, from 12.30 am. onwards, in the Conference Room of the Principality of Asturias. The current edition of the Debating League is sponsored by the General Assembly of the Principality of Asturias and the financial entity Cajastur.
