Raquel Fernández, student of Spanish Language and its Literature, and Saúl Fernández, student of the Degree in Mathematics, have won the contest, to which 39 original works were submitted
The jury of the III Literary Contest of the University of Oviedo has awarded this morming the first prize to Raquel Fernández Menéndez, in the category of Poetry, and to Saúl Fernández González, in the category of Short Story. The prize amounts to €1,000 to each of the winners and the edition of their respective books.
Raquel Fernández Menéndez (Salas, 1993) is a student of the Degree in Spanish Language and its Literatures. Her work Libélula has been chosen by the jury in the category of Poetry. The book of poems tries to reflect the solitude that the inhabitants of large cities undergo living in the current model of society.
The prize in the category of Short Story went to Saúl Fernández González (Oviedo, 1992), a student of the Degree in Mathematics, for his Historia del multiverso, a science-fiction narrative that proposes an alternative universe for those who cannot find a place of their own.
39 original works have been submitted to this third edition of the Contest, and the Jury, chaired by the Vice-Rector for University Extension and Communication, Vicente Domínguez, has been composed by José Luis García Martín, Professor of Spanish Literature; Elena de Lorenzo, Professor of Spanish Literature; Sofía Castañón, writer, and Leopoldo Sánchez Torre, director of the Area of University Extension.
One of the incentives to participate in the contest is, without any doubt, that the winning works will be published in delicate editions that match the quality of the texts praised by the members of the jury. These editions visibilize the talent of our university students and makes it available to the general public.
