The blood donation University campaign increases blood drawings by 30%

The number of new blood donors showed a significant increase with 679 university students who joined this initiative for the first time

The Blood Donation University Campaign has shown an increase of 30,1% compared to last year. The Vice-Chancellor for Students, Luis Rodríguez Muñiz, and the director of the Community Blood and Tissue Center of Asturias, María García, have presented this morning the final results of the campaign, joined by more than 2.191 university students.
 
Scholarships and prizes awarded to donors by Cruz Roja every year were awarded during this event. The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education was awarded this year, as it increased donations by 193% compared to last year, with a total of 233 blood drawings. The Dean, Juan Carlos San Pedro Veledo, was given the Diploma, awarded by the representative of the Community Center of Blood and Tissue.
 
Among other significant figures regarding this campaign it is worth mentioning the increase of the new donors, by 66%. A total of 679 university students became blood donors throughout this academic year. "This is vital for us", stated María García, "because promoting loyalty among young students means a guarantee for the future".
 
Three of these young students were awarded today. The students receiving the scholarship consisting of 600 euros are: Carlota Estrada, a Social Education from the Faculty Padre Enrique Ossó, and Gloria García, student of Spanish Language and its Literature. A special prize was given to Miguel Fernández, an Electric Engineering student.
