The Ángel González Chair of the University of Oviedo has just published Prosemas, the first publication in the academic field which focuses its research scope on the contemporary Spanish poetry. Prosemas. Revista de Estudios Poéticos has released a first special issue on Ángel González, in which a carefully selected group of authors and articles, suggest a review and update of the studies on the author´s life and work, who was Prince of Asturias Award for literature and held an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Oviedo.

The scientific publication, with a marked international spirit, will be published annually, and will be used as a tool to disseminate original and unpublished research works, either theoretical or critical, with a specific section for articles aimed at the study of poems written by Ángel González.

In its first publication, Prosemas offers a monographic that, in accordance with the director of the Chair, Professor Araceli Iravedra, aims to be "an update, a way to reappraise the poet´s writing that, from innovative critical points of view, explores the most uncommon parts". As an example, it includes an updated bibliography of the poet, which collects both, his critical and poetical production, and also different types of publications that have set it as the subject of study.

The first issue is a monographic devoted to Ángel González, in which 12 Spanish and international authors reappraise and update the work of the Asturian poet.

12 authors from Spanish and international universities, like the Université Blaise Pascal (Clermont-Ferrand), Université de Rennes 2, Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata or University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign, have joined this review and update process of the work of Ángel González.

This process deals, for instance, with the intertextuality in the poems written by this author, analyzed by Marta B. Ferrari, from Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata. In her analysis, she makes references to the great variety of inter-related texts, including literary, biblical, philosophical and mythological texts or those related to the cultural heritage that we may find in his large work. The expert describes a scheme of the authors that are present in the poems of Ángel González, from Garcilaso, Góngora, Quevedo, Bécquer or Espronceda to Antonio Machado, Juan Ramón Jiménez or poets of the Generation of 27´ like Vicente Aleixandre, Jorge Guillén, Pedro Salinas and Luis Cernuda, also including authors of the second half of the 20th century like Blas de Otero and Claudio Rodríguez.

It is worth highlighting the analysis of the ‘anti-poetry' carried out by Claude Le Bigot, from the Université of Rennes 2, who makes the following question: "Was Ángel González a post-modern poet?". In his analysis Le Bigot states that "the moral, authoritarian and cynical atmosphere of the society in the Franco era, and the intellectual mediocrity present in the institutions controlled by the Regime led him to reconsider the subversive possibilities of language". Ángel González, he says, "anticipated the evolution of the times of disenchantment, in spite of the democratization of the country, which actually strengthened the feeling of the mitigated power of words to transform the world". "We are sure –he added– that anti-poetry was for Ángel González a way to reactivate poetry and break with ideological boundaries".

One of the articles included is the analysis carried out by Ángel Luis Luján Atienza, from the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, on the scarce sonnets in a poetic work that is "essentially communicative, committed and experimental", according to his words. Under the title No acaba aquí la historia, literary critic Luis Bagué goes over the figure of Ángel González in the current Spanish poetry, with a specially strong influence on authors who start publishing works at the beginning of the 80´s, while in Apuntes para una poética gerontológica en el Ángel González de ‘Nada grave', John C. Wilcox, from the University of Illinois, focuses his attention on the poems written in his last years, published after his death. Some other experts analyzing the work of Ángel González are professors María Payeras Grau, Evelyne Martín Hernández, José Enrique Martínez, Bénédicte Mathios, Verónica Leuci and Laura Scarano, Miguel Ángel García and Begoña Camblor Pandiella, in charge of the bibliography.

Prosemas also offers a printed version, but a digital version will be accessible as well at REUNIDO (http://www.unioviedo.es/reunido/), a portal for the electronic journals of the University of Oviedo. All articles submitted to the journal will be reviewed by external reviewers before their publication.
