The University of Oviedo has opened a new way of institutional collaboration with Mexico. The Asturian academic institution has signed a collaboration protocol with the universities that compose the Common Space for Higher Technological Education of Aguascalientes (ECESTA), and a specific agreement with the Polytechnic University of Aguascalientes that includes, among other matters, the creation of Double Degrees with the Mexican university.

Both agreements are part of the institutional visit that the Rector of the University of Oviedo, Vicente Gotor, has made to Mexico, accompanied by Humberto R. Solla, Director of the Office of Internationalization. The Rector signed the general agreement with the Director of the Institute of Education of Aguascalientes, Francisco Chávez, in representation of the universities of the ECESTA. This organization is composed by the Technological University of Aguascalientes; the Technological University of the North of Aguascalientes; the Technological University El Retoño; the Technological University of Calvillo; the Polytechnic University of Aguascalientes; the Technological Institute of Aguascalientes; the Technological Institute El Llan, and the Technological Institute of Pabellón de Arteaga.

The act was presided by Carlos Lozano de la Torre, Governor of the State of Aguascalientes, and includes the collaboration in academic and research activities in areas of common interest, the exchange of academic materials, the implementation of an exchange program for specialists and students, and the establishment of cooperation seminars, workshops and other activities. Vicente Gotor was astonished by the growth of Aguascalientes, both in terms of education and in matters related to the economy and security.

After signing the protocol, the Rector visited the Southern Campus of the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes, as well as the Polytechnic University of Aguascalientes, with an enormous technological and mechanical potential, especially that directed by the automotion and energy industries, and which has the support of different multinational corporations located in the country.

During his stay at Mexico, the Rector also signed a specific collaboration agreement with the Polytechnic University of Aguascalientes, which includes the development of Double Degrees between the University of Oviedo and the Mexican university center, apart from mobility programs for teachers and students, and the establishment of joint research projects.
