Rector Vicente Gotor presided over the ceremony, in which retired teachers and administrative staff, along with the family members of those awarded with the Posthumous Golden Medal, received the recognition of the university community.
The University of Oviedo hosted yesterday the award ceremony of the Golden and Silver Medals for the staff members who retired during this academic year, having serviced the academic institution at least for 35 or 25 years, respectively. During the ceremony, the Posthumous Golden Medals were also given to the award-winners who have died since the latest edition of the prize. The councilor for Education, Culture and Sports, Ana González, and the general director of Universities and Research, Miriam Cueto, were also present during the ceremony.
The rector dedicated a special remembramce to the late members of the staff, whom the University of Oviedo awarded the Posthumous Golden Medal: María Jesús López Bobo, Adolfo Otero Rodríguez, Rosa María Suárez Melgar, Manuel Chamorro Portillo, Rosa María García Cadenas, Juana María Gil López, Elvira Poncela and Martín Sevilla Rodríguez. "I will tell to their family members that their time at the University will not be forgotten, because they have left behind colleagues, friends and disciples who will make their memory live on", said the Rector.
This ceremony, added the rector, aims at being a simple homage to our colleagues, who have contributed with their effort to the development of the University of Oviedo. "Today, we pay tribute to the teachers of dozens of classes and to all of you who have made possible that generations of young people have found in our classrooms and our centers a home away from home, during such an important period of their lives".
