Two of the most prestigious meetings about research on high-energy physics have awarded the work of a PhD student of the University of Oviedo, Santiago Folgueras. His poster, entitled Search for new physics using events with two same-signed isolated leptons in the sinal state at CMS has been awarded at the 37th International Conference on High Energy Physics (ICHEP) and at the Large Hadron Collider Physics (LHCP) Conference, which have taken place during the past few weeks at Valencia and the University of Columbia in New York.

The winning poster summarizes the research conducted on supersymmetric particles, which are the focus of a great part of the research of the so-called "New Physics", in order to try to prove the existence of dark matter. The predictions on which Santiago Folgueras's study is built aim at trying to demonstrate whether there are new particles beyond the current standard model of particles.

Folgueras is working on his PhD Thesis with the research group on Experimental High Energy Physics of the University of Oviedo, led by Professor Javier Cuevas, and also collaborates with the research of the CMS experiment conducted at the CERN. His work has already been published by prestigious international journals and has been featured in scientific meetings of the highest international relevance.
