The finalists will participate in a live concert during the first week of September and the winner will represet the academic institution in a national contest organized by the Group 9 of Universities

The University of Oviedo has opened the 1st Music Contest aimed at promoting cultural creation and activities among the university community. Participants will have until July 15 to finish their registration and send between two and five original songs (both music and lyrics) recorded as MP3. The University will organize in September a concert with the finalists, and the winner will compete in the Interuniversity Music Contest of the Group 9 of Universities.

The contest, born as a complement to the Pop-Rock Music Classrooms organized by the Office of the Vice-Rector for University Extension and Communication, is open to all the university community. Participants are required to be over 18 years old and must be related to the University of Oviedo during 2014, either as a student in an official Degree, a teacher or researcher (PDI) or a member of the administrative staff (PAS). There is just one modality, but participants may be soloists or part of a group, of which at least two members must belong to the academic institution.

The registration period closes on July 15 and the regulations may be checked at the website of the University of Oviedo, or by clicking on the following link: http://goo.gl/49xT6N. On July 21, the names of the participants chosen to attend the live concert during the first week of September will be disclosed.

The jury will assess the instrumentation and technical quality of the sound, and the performance of each music genre, as well as the staging and artistic creativity. The winner of this phase will represent the University of Oviedo in the 3rd Interuniversity Music Contest of the Group 9 of Universities, which will take place on September 26, 2014, as part of the celebrations of San Fermín Txikito of Pamplona. The winner of the interuniversity contest will receive an award of €2,500, while the second and third places, either soloists or groups, will receive €1,500 and €500, respectively.
