The Tenured Professor of Organic Chemistry was given the award on the field of Chemical Sciences for his 'relevant merits' and in the modality of renowned researchers
The Rector of the University of Oviedo and Tenured Professor of Organic Chemistry, Vicente Gotor, has been awarded with the Prize of the Royal Academy of Sciences in the field of Chemical Sciences. The award was given to him for the "relavant merits" of his career, in the modality of renowned researchers.
The Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences decided to recover this year one of the most important prizes for the scientific community, which had not been awarded since 2001. In this new period, the institution recovers its awards for five scientific disciplines, including Chemical Sciences.
This prize is awarded in two modalities: for renowned researchers who have achieved a noteworthy career and for young researchers under 40 who have conducted a high quality research of scientific relevance. The Royal Academy of Sciences states that the final list of award-winners will be published in two weeks, and that the award ceremony will take place in Madrid in a date yet to be determined.
Vicente Gotor Santamaría has developed an intense academic career as a teacher and as a manager, and an extensive scientific career as an international researcher. He has been Rector of the University of Oviedo since 2008, being re-eletected for the post in March 2012.
Co-author of more than 400 articles in international journals and author of 11 national and international patents, Gotor has directed more than 60 PhDs and has been the main researcher in more than 25 national, regional and international projects. He is one of the founding members of the first Spin-Off of the University of Oviedo, ENTRECHEM S.A., and has had an extended career in applied research in national and international enterprises. In this last field, Lilly, an international enterprise, granted him an international methodology project that is currently being developed at the University of Oviedo. As a manager, he has been the director of the Area of Academic Planning, Vice-Rector for Research and Director of the Department of Organic and Inorganic Chemistry.
