The exhibition, which showcases 111 Asturian sand deposits, starts its tour at the Maritime Museum of Asturias and will travel to Cangas del Narcea, Avilés, La Caridad, Grado and Llanes
The exhibition entitled Arena. Un paseo por las playas de Asturias starts in Luanco a tour that will take it to different towns of Asturias. The exhibition will travel throughout the Principality thanks to the collaboration between the University of Oviedo and the Council of Education, Culture and Sports. The exhibition will make a stop at Cangas del Narcea, Avilés, La Caridad, Grado and Llanes.
Starting today and until July 6, the exhibition will be open at the Maritime Museum of Asturias in Gozón, with entrance free of charge for the general public. The items that make up the exhibition belong to the Museum of the Faculty of Geology of the University of Oviedo and they represent the complete collection of catalogued samples that show the geological wealth of the Asturian coast.
Arena. Un paseo por las playas de Asturias allows its audiences to embark on a journey through a variety of materials that make up the sandy areas of 111 Asturian beaches, from West to East, following the course of the main marine currents of the Cantabrian coast. The exhibition was born as the result of the research conducted at the University of Oviedo on the coastal and river dynamics and geomorphology of our coast, as well as its particular geological features.
The sample of sand from each beach is accompanied by a complete information card that explains to the visitor its characteristics, as well as photos and maps of the sandy area. The texts that go alongside and explain the different expositive elements are written in both Spanish and Asturian, so that the singularities of the sands and our coasts can be seen with the extraordinary lexical wealth of both languages.
