The entity also approved the rental of premises in the Building of Scientific-Technical Services of Gijón and named Alberto Marcos Vallaure and Carlos Suárez Nieto professors emeriti
The Governing Council of the University of Oviedo approved the annual budget corresponding to 2013, the naming of new professors emeriti and the proposal of rental of premises of the Building of Scientific-Technical Services of the Campus of Gijón, among other measures. The Rector, Vicente Gotor, alongside the Vice-Rector for Economic Planning, Agreements and Contracts, Santiago Álvarez, and the Vice-Rector for Research and Campus of International Excellence, Paz Suárez Rendueles, informed of the agreements reached during this morning.
The annual budget was closed with a negative total of €544,000, a deficit that the Vice-Rector for Economic Planning considered to be surmountable and which justifies the cutbacks that the University was forced to make during the past year, without which the negative balance would have been much worse. The budget must be approved by the Social Council next week.
In terms of the rental of premises of the Building of Scientific-Technical Services of the Campus of Gijón to the Municipal Center of Enterprises, to host a "greenhouse of enterprises", the Vice-Rector for Research and Campus of International Excellence explained that this is a part of the building, of around 300 m2, aimed at offices and meeting halls, while the rest of the building will still be available for the researchers. The agreement reached will last for three years and each year the University will receive €20,000 and the Municipal Center will take on the expenses of maintenance, staff, heating and electricity. The Rector pointed out that this agreement benefits both the institution and the enterprises.
The Governing Council also approved the naming of the ex-Rector Alberto Marcos Vallaure and the Tenured Professor Carlos Suárez Nieto as professors emeriti fo the University of Oviedo due to their merits in teaching, research and academic positions assumed.
