Researchers from the academic institution start a cycle titled 'From the macrocosmos to the microcosmos', with conferences of scientific denomination open to the public between March 24 and April 10
The Scientific Thinking Classroom of the University of Oviedo starts the second edition of the cycle From the Macrocosmos to the Microcosmos, an initiative that seeks to bring closer to the Asturian soecity the work of researchers and the keys of some of the great discoveries and challenges of contemporary science. The scientific dissemination conferences will tour, between March 24 and April 10, four Asturian councils: Mieres, Piedras Blancas, Cangas de Onís and Vegadeo. The sessions will take place at 19:30 and will be open to the public free of charge.
How our view on the cosmos and satellite astronomy has changed and what is the real meaning of the discover of the Higgs Boson, or what minerals are needed to create a tablet or a cellphone are some of the topics that the scientists will deal with during their meetings with the public.
The conferences will starts next Monday, March 24, at 19:30 in the Valey Cultural Center of Piedras Blancas and the Cultural House of Mieres. The professors from the Department of Physics of the University of Oviedo, Javier Cuevas and Javier Fernández, will speak at Castrillón about La estructura de la materia a nivel elemental y el bosón de Higgs: algunas aplicaciones inesperadas en el proceso de su descubrimiento. The first scientific dialog that will take place in Mieres will be offered by Jesús Blanco and Pedro Gorría, professors from the Department of Physics, who will approach the world of the Materiales del siglo XXI: descubrimientos en innovaciones que mejoran la calidad de vida y el medio ambiente.
Luigi Toffolatti, professor of Astrophysics, will open his round of dialogs on March 27 at the Cultural House of Cangas de Onís with a talk on El Hot Big Bang, la evolución del Universo y el satélite Planck: la astronomía desde el espacio cambia nuestra visión del cosmos. Gabrial Fernández and Mercedes Fuertes, professors of the Department of Geology, will also speak on March 27 at the Cultural House of Vegadeo about Del manto terrestre a tu Tablet: los recursos minerales y las nuevas tecnologías.
