Four students from different Degrees will represent the University of Oviedo in the 6th Interuniversity Debate League of the G-9, which will take place at the University of the Basque Country in April 2-4. Two teams competed during this Saturday morning in the regional phase of this initiative at the Main Hall of LAUDEO Cultural Center for University Extension, focused during this edition on the topic "Is is possible to maintain the wellfare state at the European Union?".

The winning team of the 3rd Debate League of the University of Oviedo is composed by Ángel López Medina, student of the Degree in Computer Science Engineering; Adrián Santons Menéndez (Degree in Electronic Engineering), David Vega Hernández (Degree in Commerce and Marketing) and Óscar Barros González (Degree in Spanish Language and its Literatures). The Asturian students will compete against teams from other universities of the Group 9.

The aim of the Debate League is to promote among university students a public dialog and the challenge of ideas as an exercise in co-existence, as well as the development of the personal skills for searching information, analysis, oral expression, listening, teamwork and quickness in replying.

These initiatives have a long and historied tradition in British and American universities and secondary education. Based on this experience, the universities of the G-9, a group of which the University of Oviedo is a member, started the Interuniversity Debate League. The Asturian academic institution hosted the national phase in 2012.
