Two Asturian students will represent Spain in the International Chemistry Olympiad

The Rector received in his office the three winners of the regional phase, David Prieto, Darío de la Fuente and Jaime Moyano, before two of them travel to Moscow to participate in the international competition

Two Asturian students will represent Spain in the next International Chemistry Olympiad that will take place in Moscow in July. David Prieto, student of the IES Fleming of Oviedo, and Darío de la Fuente, student of the IES Aramo, won the first and third prize, respectively, in the 26th Edition of the National Chemistry Olympiad, which took place a few days ago in Alicante. Having placed among the first four, the two Asturian students will be part of the Spanish delegation that will travel to Moscow next Summer and to La Paz (Bolivia) next Fall to compete in the Latin American Chemistry Olympiad.

Rector Vicent Gotor received in his office two of the winners, along with the winner of the third place in the regional phase, Jaime Moyano, student of the IES Jovellanos of Gijón. The Rector encouraged the three youths to continue with their studies at the University of Oviedo and wished them the best of luck during the competition.

Present during the meeting were the families of the three students and professor Miguel Ferrero, coordinator of the regional phase of the Chemistry Olympiad. The University of Oviedo collaborates in the organization of the National Chemistry Olympiad alongside the National Association of Chemists of Spain and the Royal Society of Chemistry.
